Privacy policy

The short version: we collect what we need to quote a job, turn up to clean it, and pay the people who did. We do not sell it.

Privacy Policy in short

MaidSimple collects the information needed to quote and deliver a cleaning visit: name, phone, email, service address, and details about the home. Payment card details are handled by the payment processor and never stored by MaidSimple. Personal information is not sold or rented. California residents may request access to or deletion of their information by contacting hello@itsmaidsimple.com.

Last updated September 2026. This policy covers the MaidSimple website, the cleaning service, and the MaidSimple mobile app for iPhone and Android. It describes how they actually work today. Have a lawyer review it against your final operating setup before relying on it.

What we collect

  • Contact details you give us: name, phone number and email address.
  • The service address, and the details about the home used to price the visit — floor area, bedrooms, bathrooms, condition and the tasks you select.
  • Property information returned by public and licensed property-data sources when you enter an address, used to size the job.
  • Any notes you leave for the crew.
  • Booking and payment records: what was booked, when, and what was charged.
  • Standard technical data your browser sends — IP address, device and browser type, and the pages you visited.

What we do with it

  • Quote your job, schedule it, and get a crew to the right address.
  • Take payment and issue receipts.
  • Contact you about a booking — confirmations, reminders and changes.
  • Handle a guarantee claim or a complaint.
  • Improve pricing accuracy by comparing estimated time against actual time on site.
  • Meet our legal, tax and insurance obligations.

We do not sell or rent personal information, and we do not share your address with a contractor pool — there isn’t one. The people who see your details are our own employees and the service providers listed below.

Who else sees it

Only the providers needed to run the service, and only the part they need:

  • Our payment processor, to take payment. Card numbers go directly to them and never touch our systems.
  • Our property-data provider, which receives the service address in order to return details about the home.
  • Mapping and address-autocomplete services, which receive the address text you type.
  • Our hosting, email and scheduling providers, which handle the site and our communications with you.
  • Professional advisers, insurers, or authorities where the law requires it.

The MaidSimple app

There is one MaidSimple app, and what it does depends on who is signed in. A customer uses it to book and follow their cleans. A MaidSimple cleaner uses it to work — her schedule, her clock, and her hours. The two see different things, and the app never shows one person another person’s information.

Signing in uses your mobile number: we text you a code and you type it back. Customers may also use Sign in with Apple, which tells us only the name and email address you agree to share.

What the app collects from a customer

  • The same booking details as the website — your home, your address, your preferences and notes for the crew.
  • Photographs of the rooms cleaned, taken by the crew, so you can see the work before and after. These are attached to your cleaning report and are visible to you and to MaidSimple staff.
  • A device token so we can send you push notifications about your clean. You can turn notifications off in the app or in your phone’s settings, and nothing else stops working if you do.

What the app collects from a MaidSimple cleaner

This part applies to our own employees rather than to customers.

  • Location, while on the clock only. Between clocking in and clocking out, the app records the phone’s location about once a minute so the office can see the route the day took and confirm a crew reached the right address. It records nothing before a clock-in and nothing after a clock-out, and there is no way for the office to turn it on outside those two moments. These breadcrumbs are deleted automatically after 90 days.
  • Time records. Clock-ins, clock-outs, breaks taken and breaks missed, and the answers given at clock-out about them — including a typed signature where one is asked for. These are wage records and are kept for as long as California law requires.
  • Work records. Which visits were assigned, which rooms were finished, photographs taken of the work, and any issue reported.
  • A device token for push notifications about shifts, schedule changes and reminders.

A cleaner sees her own location history and nobody else’s. Customers never see it at all.

The camera and photo library

The app asks for the camera so the crew can take before-and-after photographs of the rooms cleaned, and for the photo library so an existing photo can be attached to a report. It reads nothing else from the library and it does not scan your photos.

Deleting your account

You can delete your MaidSimple account from inside the app, under Me. Deleting removes your profile, your home details and preferences, your notes, your photographs and your notification settings.

Two things survive a deletion, and only because the law requires it: the billing record of visits already invoiced or paid, which tax and accounting rules make us keep, and — for a MaidSimple employee — the wage and hour records that California requires an employer to retain. Nothing in either is used to contact you again. You can also ask us to delete your account by emailing hello@itsmaidsimple.com or calling (888) 245-3085.

Payment information

Card details are collected and stored by our payment processor, not by MaidSimple. We can see the last four digits and the card brand for reconciliation and nothing more. We never see or store a full card number, and nobody at MaidSimple can take a card number over the phone and write it down.

How long we keep it

Booking and payment records are kept as long as tax, accounting and insurance rules require. Quote requests that never became bookings are kept for a limited period so we can follow up, then deleted. Ask us to delete your information sooner and we will, except where we are legally required to keep a record.

  • Location breadcrumbs recorded while a cleaner is on the clock: deleted automatically after 90 days.
  • Cleaning photographs: kept with the cleaning report they belong to, and deleted with your account.
  • Time and wage records for our employees: kept for as long as California employment law requires.

Your California rights

Under the CCPA and CPRA, California residents may ask what personal information we hold about them, ask for a copy, ask us to correct it, and ask us to delete it. You may also opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information — though we do not sell or share it, so there is nothing to opt out of. Exercising any of these rights will never get you worse service or a worse price.

To make a request, email hello@itsmaidsimple.com or call (888) 245-3085. We will verify your identity against the booking details we already hold before acting on it, which protects you rather than us.

Cookies and analytics

The site uses the minimum storage needed to work — for example keeping your place in the quote form while you fill it in. If and when we add analytics or advertising tags, this section will name them before they go live rather than after.

Children

This is a service for adults arranging cleaning for their own homes, and an app used by adults doing that work. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16, and the app is not directed at children.

Changes

If this policy changes materially we will update the date at the top and, where the change affects existing customers, tell them directly rather than relying on anyone re-reading this page.

Contact

Common questions

Do you sell my personal information?

No. We do not sell or rent personal information to anyone, and we do not share your address with a contractor network because we do not use one. The only third parties who see your details are the service providers who process payment, look up property data, or host the site.

Do you store my card number?

No. Card details go directly to our payment processor and never touch our systems. We can see the last four digits and the card brand for reconciliation, and that is all. Nobody here can read your full card number.

How do I get my data deleted?

Email hello@itsmaidsimple.com or call (888) 245-3085 and ask. We will confirm your identity against details we already hold, then delete what we are not legally required to keep — tax and insurance rules mean some booking records have to survive a deletion request.
